Working from home vs commuting: As fuel prices rise, we want to hear your stories

We’ll reflect your experiences in an upcoming article.

LAST UPDATE | 23 Apr

THE COST OF petrol and diesel soared after the US and Israel attacked Iran almost eight weeks ago – and despite government measures to reduce prices, they remain high.

Now trade union Fórsa has called on the government to increase work from home days for civil servants due to the impact of the fuel crisis and the ongoing problem of congestion on Irish roads.

It’s arguing that one more day of remote work per week would reduce both traffic jams and demand for fossil fuels, as well as giving workers back the time and money they would otherwise spend commuting.

For many Irish workers, particularly in rural areas where public transport and cycling are not an option, fuel prices are a big deal. We want to hear your stories and views on commuting during a fuel crisis.

  • How much time and money do you usually spend each week commuting to work, and what impact has the fuel crisis had?
  • Have you been commuting less to save money, or would you like to?
  • How agreeable has your employer been to the idea of more remote work?
  • Have you changed how you commute in recent weeks, such as by switching to public transport or cycling?
