FORMER MINISTER FOR Finance Brian Lenihan died exactly a year ago today, after a long battle with cancer.
The 52-year-old was finance minister during what many regard as the worst years of the recession, which saw a succession of austerity budgets as well as the bank guarantee and ultimately the EU/IMF bailout.
He was the only Fianna Fáil TD in Dublin to retain his seat at the 2011 General Election, but died just four months later. Lenihan had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2009.
