GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING an undisclosed, missing sum of money from a garda station in Co Kildare.

A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the money was discovered missing from the Athy station following an audit of all stations ordered by Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan .

The money was being held at the station as part of evidence to crimes.

It is believed the missing cash is from a number of hauls and it is not yet clear if the money was stolen or mislaid.

Balbriggan Garda Station

Earlier this year, two sums of money – in two separate incidents – were reported to have gone missing at Balbriggan Garda Station in north Dublin.

A garda in his 30s was arrested in connection with the theft of €9,000 in April, but was released a short time later. A file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Meanwhile, later in April, another sum of money was reported to have gone missing from the same north Dublin station. A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that a “criminal and disciplinary investigation” was launched at the time.
