Good news burrito fans: Boojum's just been bought and they're promising more stores

The Mexican fast-food stores are remaining in Irish hands.

BOOJUM IS BEING sold, but the new owners are promising that it will mean more burritos for Irish customers.

The first Boojum opened in Belfast in 2007 and has since grown to five popular Mexican food-food stores across Ireland.

They’ve proved so popular that a partnership between Irish equity firm Renatus and two Belfast brothers have decided to buy out the brand.

The stores make a range of Mexican food but the classic burrito is still king. Even this week,  TheDailyEdge.ie placed Boojum top of its list of the top 5 burritos in Dublin.

David and Andrew Maxwell are partnering up with Renatus to acquire Boojum and say that they plan to grow the business.

“We have ambitious expansion plans,” David says. “Our aim, in partnership with Renatus, is to preserve the great business that we are buying and build it to create many new jobs as we bring the Boojum experience to new communities.”

Renatus co-founder Mark Flood described Boojum as the “best Mexican food offering in Ireland” but the partners are staying tight-lipped about the value of the deal.

Rentaus says its usual investment is between €1 million- €3 million but given that this deal was a joint venture it’s likely that the value of the buyout is more. TheJournal.ie understands that the total price was less than €6 million.

@Niallers: Exactly! Easily done, as well. A computer science grad could easily create such an app, and for free! Build a database that could start tracking trouble hotspots and repeat offenders, and take the necessary action.

I’d like to know how many of the incidents were prosecuted and what was the sentencing. If the gardai decided to act on these reports, with a sense of urgency, it should be like shooting fish in a barrell.

Nah that’s not 21st century enough. Need to have a system where you connect to a VPN, then download an app, sign up to the app while waiving your privacy rights, spending half an hour trying to solve the recapcha puzzle that doesn’t work, finally doing it, waiting half a year to activate your account, then make a vertical Snapchat video that’s angled slightly, add some captions with emojis and filters, upload it to the app that’ll take months to finish, then by the time you’ve done that the perpetrators would half been halfway to Cork already.

If all else fails, just call 999.

I watched a video of a probe touch down on an asteroid and sweep up a sample for analysis this week. Happened out in deep space. Can the DART not have security on the train and a button to hail them?
