TD Clare Daly stopped by Gardaí over alleged drink driving

The ULA deputy was arrested in Dublin last night, and said she had “been given a hot whiskey for a cold.”

INDEPENDENT TD Clare Daly has confirmed that she was pulled over by Gardaí last night on suspicion of being above the blood-alcohol limit.

The United Left Alliance member, who quit the Socialist Party in September, was seen taking an illegal turn while driving near the South Circular Road yesterday evening.

She was then pulled over by Gardaí and breathalysed before being taken to Kilmainham Garda Station.

Daly told RTÉ News that she had taken full responsibility for her actions.

She said she had been at a family event where she was given a hot whiskey for a cold.

“If that brought me over the limit,” she said, “then that’s obviously a very serious mistake on my part and one that I take full responsibility for.”
