A LARGE PORTION of Cork’s city centre will be disrupted as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visit on Thursday.

The visit will kick off in the city at 10.30am on Thursday morning. On Friday, the royal party will travel to Kerry where they will visit Derrynane, Tralee and Killarney before departing that evening.

Cork City, Tralee and Killarney will be open for business as usual and the public is invited to come out and welcome the royals.

However, people wishing to catch a glimpse of the heir to the British throne are advised to arrive in good time and not to attempt to bring bags or luggage into viewing areas.

People going about their business on the day are warned that there will be delays.

In Cork city, the following parking restrictions will be in place:

• Between 12 noon tomorrow and around 3pm on Thursday, parking will be prohibited on Patrick’s Street from Academy Street to Daunt Square, as well as on the Grand Parade, South Mall, Oliver Plunkett Street from Princess Street to Grand Parade, Lapp’s Quay, Anglesea Street and Kyrl’s Street
• Parking is also prohibited between 12 noon and 12 midnight on Thursday on Half – moon Street, Academy Street, Emmet Place and Drawbridge Street

There will also be a number of road closures in place on Thursday.

•  Between 7.15am and 2pm on Thursday: The Grand Parade, Oliver Plunkett Street from Caroline Street to the Grand Parade, Lapp’s Quay, The South Mall between Parliament Street and Grand Parade, will all be closed

Then:

• Between 9.30am and 2pm, Anglesea Street, Union Quay from Copley Street to Parnell Bridge, South Mall and all side streets from Parliament Street to Parnell Bridge will be closed. Traffic will be allowed northbound on Parnell Bridge
• Between 9.30am and 11.30am, St. Patrick’s Street and adjoining streets, Academy Street, Half Moon Street, Emmet Place and Drawbridge Street

The following pedestrian restrictions will be in place:

• Between 7.15am and 2pm: Pedestrian movement will be restricted on The Grand Parade, Oliver Plunkett Street from Market Alley to the Grand Parade, Street and Grand Parade
• Between 9.30am and 11.30am: Pedestrian movement will be restricted at Daunt Square and Washington Street from its junctions with Grand Parade and South Main Street
• Between 10.30 am and 1.30pm: Pedestrian movement will be restricted on Anglesea Street, the west side of Parnell Bridge and Union Quay.

Gardai are appealing to the public to be patient and to cooperate with the directions of members of An Garda Siochana. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and delays to the public.

Traffic details for the visit to Kerry will be released tomorrow.
