A 13-YEAR-OLD girl has been seriously injured in a fall from a roadway bridge in Co Cork. The incident happened at around 8am this morning in Mahon in Cork city.

The schoolgirl was discovered by a passer-by who alerted the emergency services. Gardaí attended at 8.10am.

It’s understood that she did not fall onto the roadway, but rather onto an embankment beside the bridge. Gardaí could only confirm that the girl was on the embankment when they attended, not how she ended up there.

She was removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital, where her injuries are described as being serious.

The gardaí have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have seen the girl in the preceding minutes to come forward or to contact them at Blackrock Garda Station on 021 4536690.
