
GETTING PEOPLE TO take a photograph of their Dublin is a big ask. How do you sum up a city of more than one million people in one image?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of the twitpics submitted by Twitter users yesterday as part of Digital Dublin Day featured the rain – people battling the elements on O’Connell Street, the rain hitting the beach at Sandymount, and the Liffey looking murky and grey (or at least, murkier and greyer than usual).
More unexpected though was the broad range of photos people took. Dublin City Council had asked Twitter users to take a photo of Dublin and tag it with the hashtag #mydubpic, which at one stage was trending in the capital on Friday. People photographed Dublin landmarks, iconic views and street scenes, showing Dublin through many different lenses.
Lord Mayor Naoise Ó Muirà last night chose the winner (above) of a side street off Dublin’s south quays taken by @rachel_violin, who won a helicopter trip around Dublin for her efforts. Here are some of the other photographs taken during the day:
