Earthquake shakes central Mexico, but little damage reported

Tremor sends people fleeing into the streets.

A magnitude 6.5 quake has struck a wide area of southern and central Mexico MSNBC reports.

The earthquake sent people fleeing into the streets in the town of Las Choapas, 370 miles southeast of Mexico City. It caused buildings to sway for several minutes, but there have been no initial reports of damage or injury.

There was also a strong tremor in the state of Chiapas which borders Guatemala, but again there are no reports of damage or injuries.
