A LOT fewer people tuned in to the IFTAs this year

Another live awards show will be aired on TV3 this October.

A LOT FEWER people were interested in the glitz and glam of this year’s Irish Film and TV Awards (IFTAs).

TV3 confirmed the IFTAs 2015 had an average viewership of 121, 100, compared to the average audience of 382,000 last year.

In 2013, the awards ceremony was pulling in close to 600,000 viewers.

The awards has been mired in controversy since RTÉ dropped the format following floods of complaints rolling in about the 2014 show.

This year there was talk that the show might not go on this year, however, TV3 stepped in and decided to take over.

The broadcaster did decide to change things up this year by splitting the awards in two - with the ‘film and drama’ ceremony going out in May, and the TV awards being broadcast in October.

A spokesperson for TV3 said that while there have been some comparisons to previous years, “it’s not really comparable”.

The show was a lot shorter this year compared to the usual two-hour ceremony of previous years.

This year was a neat fast paced 1 hour packaged highlights show – it was by no means a 2hour plus ceremony and so comparing it to other years doesn’t really work. The TV Awards in October will be comparable as they’ll be live.
