A MAN HAS been arrested on the suspicion of the murder of Bristol landscape architect Joanna Yeates.
The Avon and Somerset police confirmed that a 32-year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of murder.
The body of Joanna Yeates, 25, was discovered in a laneway three miles from her home on Christmas Day; she had been reported missing a week previously by her boyfriend, Greg Reardon. A post mortem confirmed she had been strangled.
The arrest comes two days after a reconstruction of Yeate’s final steps was broadcast by Crimewatch in the UK. On Monday, Yeate’s parents, David and Teresa, made an appeal for information from members of the public and “armchair detectives” who may have seen something suspicious.
During their appeal, Yeates’ parents warned that the killer could be triggered to murder again over something “apparently insignificant” and begged anyone who had doubts about somebody they knew to come forward: “It would appear that the nation is shocked and appalled by what has happened to our daughter,” they said, “Do you know someone who has been, somehow, justifying her being killed? Please help us identify the killer. Jo was probably acquainted with her killer.”
The appeal prompted more than 300 calls to the force, the BBC reports.
DCI Phil Jones, the senior investigating officer, said: ”I would like to thank the public for their continued support for the investigation and the information they have provided to us.
“I would also like to pay tribute to Jo’s family and to Greg who continue to be unfailing in their support to me and my team at what is an incredibly difficult and painful time for them.”
