Man in his 30s stabbed repeatedly by gang of youths in Longford

The incident happened just after 8.30pm last night.

A MAN IN his 30s has been seriously wounded after suffering multiple stab wounds in an assault in Co Longford.

The incident happened on New Street in Longford Town just after 8.30pm on St Patrick’s Day.

The man “suffered apparent stab wounds when he was assaulted by a number of youths” according to a Garda spokesperson. He has been taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, where his condition is understood to be critical.

An 18-year-old man and two male juveniles were arrested in connection with the crime a short time later. They are currently being detained at Longford Garda Station.

The scene of the incident has been preserved pending a technical examination. Investigations are ongoing according to gardaí.
