Investigation into fire at vacant shopping centre in Naas

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the centre on Corbyn’s Lane at around 8pm yesterday.

A FIRE BROKE out at a vacant shopping centre in Naas, Kildare, last night.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze on Corban’s Lane at around 8pm.

The shopping centre has been vacant for some time due to construction work, according to gardaí.

Kildare Fire Services attended the scene and got the fire under control.

No one was injured in the incident.

Videos taken by locals passing the scene show a significant amount of black smoke coming from the centre.

Gardaí closed off the road and diverted traffic away from the incident.

“In this particular case, we preserved the scene pending the arrival of technical experts who would do an examination to see what the cause of the fire was,” a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said.

It is understood that examinations will be carried out at the scene today.

Kildare Fire Services were unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
