A DUBLIN STREET is this morning closed off after a car exploded overnight.
Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed that there had been no injuries in the car fire on Long Lane in Dublin 8. An image of the fire had spread over social media, resulting in a number of calls to emergency services, with a reports of multiple injuries, windows being blown out and a number of loud bangs.
Thankfully, those reports were false, and no injuries were reported, though houses were damaged.
Gardai in Kevin Street are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the incident, which happened at around 11pm.
The scene was immediately preserved and the Army EOD team attended. Long Lane is currently closed and the scene is being preserved for a full technical examination.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact Kevin Street Garda Station on 01 666 9400, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
A TheJournal.ie reader sent a video from the scene. He said that there was a “huge explosion”.
“There was a huge explosion, so much so that all of the neighbours came out of their houses. I could see a massive fireball go up in the air over the old Meath Hospital.
“I thought the hospital had a gas leak and so went to see what had happened. It turned out to be a car that i had just walked past.”
