Just one point to add Theresa, I hope that the current generation of children are not to be subjected to filling the so called bags with turf, which are empty fertaliser bags. In the seventies, when your knuckles were cut to shreds, from the edges of dried turf, that you had been stacking for a relative for long hours, that was just about alright, but when the salt from the nitrates from the inside of the fertaliser bags touched your open cuts, then a new pain entered your life. Where were the hessian bags of old, you thought, but then you were only eight, nine ten etc.

Haha I tried getting them to clean up afterwards, Debi, but once that spoon is in their mouth, you may as well tell them that the world was ending, because the only reaction you’re going to get is a smiling, giggling child without a care in the world, and so I suppose it should always be.

It sure is! It’s well worth it though as kids really do love to cook. Nowadays they seem to lose this passion as they grow but with patience at the early stages they’ll be cooking for you in a few years. Be in it for the long haul!!

I am definitely going to have my kids cooking and as self sufficient as possible. Right now though my son has only just turned 2 and I’m pregnant and due in less than a month with number 2 so patience is a NECESSITY :) we did bake scones recently though and I’m gonna get him to help making quiche and pastries soon……I’m desperately trying to avoid cakes for obvious reasons but I remember my mother baking when I was little and we’d get to lick the chocolaty spoon. No kid should be deprived of that ;) nStep mom got me a great book actually, ‘I can cook’ by Sally brown and Kate Morris. Looking forward to using it properly with them. nWhen I can reach the floor again to pick up the mess we shall start diving in to cooking!!! And with that,I’m off to get something to eat cause I’m starving!!

I think you’re dead right. With regards to cakes, everything in moderation. Licking that spoon is a childhood memory that I cherish! I’ll look out for that book, always interested in a good cookery book.
