A MAN HAS been arrested after gardaí targeted organised criminal gangs involved in selling stolen vehicles today.
As part of Operation Thor, a targeted intelligence led operation was put in place in Dublin and eastern regions, to combat the distribution of stolen vehicles.
Gardaí focused on an organised crime gang that were stealing cars in residential burglaries across Dublin.
This afternoon, gardaí stopped and searched a car on the N11 in County Wexford, where car parts, believed to be stolen, were recovered.
One man is his 50s was arrested and is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984, as amended.
Meath search
In a follow-up operation, gardaí searched premises in the Summerhill area of County Meath.
During the course of this search three cars – an Audi A4, Audi A3 and VW Golf – were recovered. Gardaí also seized four kilograms of cannabis herb which has an estimated street value of €80,000.
A number of private houses were also searched in the operation.
Stolen Audis
During a search of a property in County Wicklow three cars – Audi A5, Audi A1 and a Hyundai Tuscan – were recovered. Gardaí believe all vehicles were stolen.
Gardaí believe this seizure is a significant result in targeting this organised crime gang. The investigation into the distribution network of stolen car parts is ongoing.
