Heaney, a Derry native, had called Dublin his home for the past number of decades.

SEAMUS HEANEY WAS buried in his native Bellaghy in Derry today following a funeral in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dublin

Even in death,  his final words to his wife, “Don’t be afraid”, received praise for their thoughtful simplicity.

Hundreds of mourners from all sections of Irish society attended the moving service.
