Health Minister thanks two women who live-tweeted their abortion journey

Simon Harris took the somewhat surprising action of thanking the two women directly.

MINISTER FOR HEALTH Simon Harris has expressed thanks to a Twitter account manned by two women who travelled to Britain for an abortion over the weekend.

“Thanks to @TwoWomenTravel for telling story of reality which faces many. Citizens Assembly – a forum to discuss 8th & make recommendations,” read the minister’s message on Twitter.

The account in question was in operation from early Saturday until yesterday morning, and chronicled the two women’s trip from leaving Ireland until their return.

Every tweet sent specifically referenced Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

At present the Department of the Taoiseach has yet to reply. A request for comment has been made of the department.

The Twitter bio for the @TwoWomenTravel account reads: “Two women, one procedure, 48 hours away from home”.

The women’s journey received significant international attention over the weekend after being featured in an article in The Guardian.
