TWO US AIRMEN HAVE died and two others were injured in a gun attack outside Terminal 2 of Frankfurt Airport.

The AP reports that a number of shots were fired near or at a bus carrying US soldiers.

Police have confirmed that the two people killed were the bus driver and one of the passengers.

A 21-year-old man from Kosovo has been arrested. The gunman and the US military personnel apparently had an argument in front of the bus shortly before he opened fire, according to a Frankfurt police spokesperson.

The US military operates a number of army bases in Germany, although the number of personnel stationed there has been reduced drastically in the past ten years. A US air force spokesperson said that the four men involved in today’s attack were all based in Britain.

This evening, German news agency DAPD quotes the German security minister as saying there are no indications this was a terrorist attack.

Security was tightened at Germany’s airports in November after authorities said they had received “concrete indications of a series of attacks planned for the end of November”, the New York Times quoted Germany’s interior minister. Intelligence suggested terrorists trained in Pakistan or Afghanistan were planning to attack.
