14 arrests as gardaí search over two dozen properties

Gardaí and Customs officers searched 27 locations in six counties in the south-east of the country today.

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING organised crime and drug trafficking in the south-east of the country today arrested 14 people and carried out a series of searches across six counties.

Twelve people were arrested in Co Carlow, one in Co Meath and one in Co Wexford, and 27 properties were searched in counties Carlow, Meath, Offaly, Laois, Tipperary and Waterford.

Gardaí say that a large consignment of contraband cigarettes was discovered during one of the searches.

Gardaí from regional and national units were assisted by officers from the Revenue Customs Service in today’s operation.

The 14 people arrested today include two women and all 14 range in age from 18 to 54. They are all being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
