40 killed in Philippines bus crash
Ten people pulled alive from wreckage.
AT LEAST 40 PEOPLE were killed when a bus plunged into a ravine in the Benguet province of northern Philippines today.
Forty-seven passengers were on board the bus, and survivors were pulled from the wreck alive including one 10-year-0ld boy.
The bus conductor managed to escape the crash by leaping from the vehicle as it left the road. He said the brakes failed as the bus negotiated the windy mountain roads.
He said the driver had attempted to avoid the ravine by striking a lamp into a mango tree, but missed.
Police investigating the accident say they may bring charges of reckless imprudence causing multiple homicides and serious injuries against both the driver and the conductor.
