GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Nine things you need to know on this (un)lucky morning…

EVERY DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you need to know with your morning cup of coffee.

1. #GOOD NEWS: Dublin has hospitality in its DNA. That is the reason given by Airbnb for choosing Ireland as the location to develop its European headquarters.

2. #SHARES: Want to own a slice of Twitter? The microblogging site announced last night that it had submitted papers ahead of a planned IPO (initial public offering). Can you say that in 140 characters?

3. #CAB: John Gilligan’s prized equestrian centre in Kildare has gone on sale this morning for an estimated €500,000 on the instructions of the Criminal Asset Bureau which seized the property from the crime boss. Take a look around (we’re not sure if it comes with the floral couches).

4. #HIT AND RUN: The woman arrested yesterday in relation to a fatal hit and run in Donegal has been released without charge, gardaí confirmed this morning.

5. #AFGHANISTAN: The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a bomb that killed at least one person and injured another 18 at a US consulate in the Afghan city of Herat today.

6. #FIRE: A massive fire rages in a New Jersey business area, undoing months of rebuilding efforts after Superstorm Sandy. The blaze has destroyed more than 20 businesses but no casualties have been reported.

7. #SYRIA: Talks between Russia and the US continue in Geneva today with an aim to reach a deal on how to guarantee the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons, the Guardian reports.

8. #BUSY FINGERS: Even though Irish people do not use text messages as much as we used to, we still managed to send 2.4 billion texts between April and June – on top of missives sent through services such as Whatsapp.

9. #BLOBBY: The blob fish has been voted the ugliest creature in the world. Aw. Don’t worry, Blobby, it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
