Man arrested while allegedly on the way to shooting is to appear in court

Two men arrested are believed to be associates of the Kinahan gang.

A MAN ARRESTED on Saturday while allegedly on his way to carry out a shooting in Dublin will face court today.

The man was one of two arrested as part of an operation against a suspected gangland incident.

Around an hour after the 2pm kick-off of Saturday’s Ireland match against Belgium at Euro 2016, gardaí intercepted a car on the Naas dual carriageway and a subsequent search turned up a firearm and ammunition.

A man in his thirties was arrested at the scene.

A second car was stopped on the Long Mile Road in the Walkinstown area of the south of the city shortly after this, and a second man in his thirties was arrested.

Both men are believed to be associates of the Kinahan gang.

One of the men will appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning. The second man was released without charge last night and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
