Almost 50,000 children have benefitted from Newborn Baby Grant in first year
So far, 49,841 children have benefitted from the measure at a cost of approximately €14 million.
IT’S BEEN ONE year since the government introduced its grant for newborn babies and so far it has benefitted almost 50,000 children, the Department of Social Protection has said.
The anniversary of the implementation of the Newborn Baby Grant, which also applies to newly adopted children, was marked today by Minister Dara Calleary, who said “these payments are making a real difference by giving parents a little extra support as they welcome their new babies”.
“In just one year, these grants have reached tens of thousands of parents all over Ireland, helping families mark the arrival of their newest members,” he said in statement.
The grant was introduced as part of the budget for 2025 and provides a one-off payment of €280 for families. It is paid automatically as part of the recipient’s first Child Benefit payment, meaning parents need not apply.
