Ambassador gives clearest indication yet Trump will visit Ireland in September for Irish Open
The 2026 Amgen Irish Open will be held at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, Doonbeg, Co Clare.
THE US AMBASSADOR to Ireland has given the strongest indication yet that Donald Trump will visit Ireland in September for the Amgen Irish Open, which will be held at his golf resort in Co Clare.
Last September, the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg was confirmed as the venue for the 2026 Amgen Irish Open.
The Irish Open will take place from 10-13 September at the venue Trump purchased in 2014.
The US Ambassador to Ireland Edward Walsh today attended a business conference hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland, which describes itself as “the voice of US companies located in Ireland”.
The conference is being held in Croke Park and Reuters has reported that Walsh told an event: “We do have a potential presidential visit at the Irish Open in September.”

Trump last made an official visit to Ireland as US president in 2019, when he stayed at his Doonbeg resort.
Speaking last September when Trump’s resort was named at the venue for the upcoming Irish Open, Taoiseach Micheál Martin remarked that the “relationship between Ireland and the United States is a critically important relationship”.
“In that context, there’s no question that President Trump would be welcome to Ireland, in terms of the underpinning of that US-Ireland relationship,” said Martin.
He added: “There will be differences of opinion, that’s natural. We live in a democracy, and we facilitate protests, we facilitate people with different agreements.
“But the fundamentals are that we continue to support that relationship because it puts bread on the table of a lot of Irish people.”
Martin will meet with Trump at the White House next month for the annual St Patrick’s Day visit to Washington.
