Baby girl delivered on Dublin street before ambulance arrived on scene
The mother and baby are doing well and were taken to Holles Street hospital.
A BABY GIRL was delivered in a car on the footpath of Hatch Street in Dublin this morning.
A husband and wife were on their way into the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, for a routine check up when the unexpected birth happened.
Dublin Fire Brigade received a call to attend the scene at 8.46am this morning.
An ambulance was on scene by 8.50am but the baby girl had already been delivered.
A number of cyclists en route into the city centre stopped to help the woman and her husband as they delivered the baby.
“It’s amazing, she delivered the baby herself,” a spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade told TheJournal.ie.
We finished it all off and prepped the baby. We had the hospital on standby and we notified them that the child was being delivered.
“We get this regularly. We see people on their way into hospital. Sometimes they leave it too late and they have to deliver in the car, in a taxi or even on the street,” he said.
“Usually we just have to make sure that the baby is breathing, that’s the main concern.”
The mother and daughter were taken to hospital from the scene.
All is well, the mother and baby are doing well.
