YOU MAY START spotting more trolleys like this in your local SuperValu store.

They’re being brought in as part of a wider initiative to support shoppers with autism and their families.

Named the ALF (Autism Lifeskill Friend), the trolley was designed by SuperValu employee Tony O’Donovan and his wife Theresa, and was inspired by their son Cian, who has autism.

The trolley is mounted with a visual guide that helps a young person or child as they travel around the store by giving them a task to focus on.

Working with the Middleton Centre for Autism, SuperValu is also bringing in autism-friendly evenings that reduce in-store sensory elements like bright lighting, loud noises and food smells.
