Man airlifted after getting into difficulties at Cork beach has died
The man had been at the beach with his wife and daughter yesterday.
A MAN IN his 60s who was airlifted to Cork University Hospital after getting into difficulty at a Cork beach has died.
The alarm was raised at around 6pm yesterday when the man was spotted in difficulty in the water at Sandycove beach near Kinsale.
A Coast Guard spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the man was pulled from the water by members of the public who attempted to resuscitate him.
Cork’s Red FM reported that two off-duty doctors who were at the beach for a swim also attended to the man and performed chest compressions until the ambulance arrived.
They also said that the man had been at the beach with his wife and daughter.
Kinsale RNLI lifeboat, ambulance services and gardaí were all at the scene when a Coast Guard helicopter arrived to airlift the man from the rocks.
The man was airlifted to Bishopstown where he was then transferred to an ambulance which took him to Cork University Hospital.
Gardaí say they are investigating the man’s death and that a post-mortem examination is scheduled for today.
