Garda trainee suspended as investigation launched into assault allegation

It is understood that the incident happened inside the training college located in Templemore in Co Tipperary.

A TRAINEE GARDA has been suspended as investigators have launched an investigation into an alleged assault at the Garda College, The Journal has learned.

It is understood that the incident happened inside the training college located in Templemore in Co Tipperary.

Sources have said that a female student has accused her male colleague of assault and that the incident happened in a room at the facility. It is understood that other students are expected to be interviewed as part of the probe.

A garda spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation is underway.

“Gardaí attached to the Clare-Tipperary Division are investigating an allegation of assault in the Garda College.

A male trainee Garda has had their training suspended. An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time,” she said.

In June it was revealed that five students were suspended from the Garda College after they allegedly handcuffed a fellow student and left him underneath a running shower.

The incident was described as a “prank gone wrong” by sources but the investigation into that incident is progressing and the student gardaí have not completed their training.
