Here are our top 10 most commented-on articles in 2013

From abortion to same-sex marriage, here are the stories which got you talking this year.

COMMENTS ARE PART of the lifeblood of the site.

Whether they make you laugh, roll your eyes, punch the keyboard, nod your head or just think about something in a different way, the reaction from readers is an integral part of the news stories that we publish.

As you’ll see from the list below, a lot of the articles which got the most comments this year were – unsurprisingly – on topical news issues which people felt strongly about. Same-sex marriage makes the list, with abortion, vaccinations and a united Ireland all getting provoking a vocal reaction from readers too.

So without further ado, here’s the 10 articles which received the most comments this year as of 20 December. Keep an eye out for later this week when we’ll be publishing the comments which got the most thumbs up from other readers. That’s going to be fun…

Religion – it’s all about love, isn’t it?

How could people disagree about that?!

Or that the extremists hijack the journal comments sections very regularly and use the journal as a soap box?

Sadly the vaccine topic was infiltrated by the bikini clad fluoride girl and all the people who think Andrew Wakefield is a hero and Elvis is still alive and drinking water with fluoride in it. Nothing like a good nutter to start panic over nothing. The same nutters believe you can cure cancer with urine and homosexuality is the result of the mother using the contraceptive pill. Always a a good laugh if it were not for the fact they put peoples lives in danger with their nonsense.

This just shows how many cynical keyboard warriors are commenting on this website. Most comments on those articles are probably spite filled and tiresome to read.

How many articles came from the immigrant council of Ireland? I’d say just a fraction of the replies would dwarf the others put together, so can the journal give us that answer please
