Aviva announces 220 jobs for Galway

Marine Institute and Financial consultants Grant Thornton also recruiting in city, bringing Galway job boost to 350.

THE MULTINATIONAL INSURANCE company Aviva is to recruit 220 staff for its offices in Galway.

The new jobs will be based in Galway West Business Park in Knocknacarra, which Aviva is touting as a global centre of excellence servicing both new claims and sales for Aviva worldwide.

“We are delighted to commence the recruitment process for these 220 new positions in Galway” said Aviva Ireland spokesperson, Gráinne Mackin.

“Our new Centre of Excellence in Galway will place our expanded Knocknacarra team at the centre of our UK and Ireland operations. This is a significant step forward in achieving our longer term vision for the business in Ireland.”

Aviva, which moved into the Irish market after its acquisition of Hibernian, caused consternation when in 2008 it announced it was moving some of its operations to Bangalore, India.

The company is currently looking for 540 redundancies in other areas of its Irish operations over the next three years.  The new jobs are in different areas.
