SOME CHRISTMAS PARCELS – and last minute eBay purchases – may not make it to their intended recipients in time for Christmas as An Post warns that the bad weather could delay deliveries.
The last date for posting anything to the EU or UK with the intention of it getting to its destination before Christmas was 18 December.
In Ireland, the last date for standard postage on letters and parcels for Christmas delivery was 19 December; items travelling by express post or courier were initially given today as their last postage date.
An Post now says delivery delays are “inevitable”, given the bad weather. The Irish Independent reports that An Post said it would make every effort to deliver parcels before Saturday, but there are particular difficulties in parts of south Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford and Kildare due to the recent heavy snowfall.
The cancellation of flights to and from Europe have also added to their problems, as mail has been held up leaving and entering the country.
