Body of man (30s) recovered off Co Galway coast after boat capsized

Two other men made it to shore unharmed after the boat capsized shortly before 3am.

A MAN’S BODY has been recovered from the Co Galway coast after a boat capsized in the early hours of the morning. 

Gardaí and the Irish Coast Guard were alerted after a boat carrying three men encountered trouble north of St Macdara’s Island shortly before 3am.

A garda spokesperson said two crew members managed to make it safely to shore unharmed, while the Coast Guard continued searching for the third person.

Shortly before 8am, the body of a man in his 30s was subsequently recovered along the shoreline. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner has been notified and the deceased has been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where a postmortem examination will be arranged.
