Round one

The CAO Round One offers in numbers

The moment of truth…

MORE THAN 52,000 people will receive offers of a third level education place today in the Central Application Office’s first round.

The points requirements for the various courses were revealed this morning and students who received their points last week have been waiting nervously to hear whether they will get into the course of their choice.

It’s still a numbers game so here are the facts, also in numbers:

75, 194 – The total number of round one CAO offers issued.

50% – The percentage of Level 8 round one offers that were applicant’s first preference.

84% - The percentage of Level 7/6 offers  that were applicant’s first preference.

736 – The points needed to do medicine in UCD – the highest points requirement for this course across all colleges. This is up six points on last year.

66 – The number of people are being offered Level 8 dentistry places.

510 – The number of students offered medicine places.

405 – The number of students from Leitrim being offered places. It should be noted this was also the county with the lowest number of Leaving Cert students.

11,376 – The number of Dublin students who are being offered courses.

86 – The number of places are going to non-EU residents.

7,349 – The number of mature students receiving offers.

24 August – The deadline for replying to round one offers.

When accepting an offer the CAO advises applicants to use the online system. Last year over 99%of applicants accepted their offers online.

If you accept an offer in round one this will not prevent you from receiving an offer of a course higher up on your courses list if you are deemed eligible in a later offer round.

We’ve got details of all the round one points if you’re curious…
