POLICE IN NEW York are searching for the father of a young girl who was abandoned at a bus station before her mother was found murdered.

The five-year-old girl was found by a New Jersey police officer at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in downtown Manhattan yesterday morning.

CBS News reports that the girl was said to be in a healthy condition and that she told police that her ‘daddy told me to stay here’. The man never returned to the child.

The child also gave police her address in Stamford, Connecticut about an hour away from New York.

When police in Stamford went to check on the address they found the girl’s 30-year-old mother dead in the apartment.

The woman was described as being of Guatemalan descent, as is her ex-boyfriend who was being questioned by police but has not been arrested.

Investigating officers have now launched a manhunt for the girl’s father, naming him as 32-year-old Elmer Gomez Ruono.
