A GROUP OF schoolchildren formed a human arrow to point a police helicopter in the direction of two burglars who were fleeing over the Easter weekend.
The incident happened last Friday in Surrey in Southern England when around 30 adults and children were taking part in a traditional Easter egg hunt.
The police helicopter then began hovering above them in a ploughed field in the Mole Valley.
Surrey Police say that the children were at first entertained by the helicopter before they realised that the police were chasing two suspects.
The helicopter had been called by Surrey Police following a report of intruders at a disused building.
Realising what was happening, the children quickly formed an arrow on the ground in the middle of a ploughed field to guide the helicopter in the direction of the fleeing pair.
National Police Air Service Sergeant Paul Sochon said it was like something out of a children’s book.
“The swift action taken by the group of parents and their children was the sort of thing you would usually associate with an Enid Blyton adventure but their ingenuity proved a great help for our crews,” he said.
The two men aged 27 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of burglary.
“As a thank you for their efforts the NPAS crew landed nearby to thank the children for the role they played in the incident and they even shared a few chocolate treats with the team,” Sochon said.
