More people would prefer a fresh election to a Fine Gael minority-led government

That’s according to a new poll carried out today.

MORE PEOPLE WOULD prefer a fresh election to a Fine Gael minority-led government – but just barely – according to a new poll.

The findings are contained in a Claire Byrne Live/Amárach Research poll for TheJournal.ie that was carried out today.

Respondents were asked:

Would you prefer a minority Fine Gael-led government or a fresh general election?

They answered:

  • Fine Gael minority government 42%
  • Fresh election 45%
  • Don’t know 13%

Question two in the poll was:

Do you support the LUAS workers’ continuing strike action?

On this topic, people answered:

  • Yes 12%
  • No 82%
  • Don’t know 6%

Talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are expected to continue into tomorrow.  The meeting began at around 11am this morning.

The talks between the two main parties are aimed at coming to an agreement that would see Fianna Fáil support a Fine Gael-led minority. But tonight’s poll shows that for some people, a new election would be a preferred alternative to this.
