A MAN IN his 40s was hospitalised after an assault in Co Cork last night.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at Mitchelstown at around midnight. The man was brought to Cork University Hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Another man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested. Gardaí said that the arrested man is currently detained at a garda station in Co Cork.
Some media reports and online commentary had earlier stated that the alleged assault had occurred within an Ipas centre in Mitchelstown.
A garda spokesperson this evening clarified that this was not the case, stating: “Contrary to some media reporting and online commentary, this incident took place in a private residence and not in an IPAS centre.”
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
