Sixth occupant of car involved in Co Louth crash released from hospital

Two people in the other vehicle involved, a man and woman in their 20s, remain in hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

THE SIXTH OCCUPANT of a car involved in a crash in Co Louth that killed five young people has been released from hospital.

Chloe McGee, Alan McCluskey, Dylan Commins, Shay Duffy and Chloe Hipson were killed when a Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in collided with a Toyota Landcruiser on the L3168 shortly after 9pm on Saturday.

They were all aged in their early 20s.

The sixth occupant of the Volkswagen Golf, also aged in his 20s, has now been released from hospital. Two people in the Toyota Landcruiser, a man and woman in their 20s, remain in hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Postmortem examinations on the five deceased have been completed and their remains have been released to their families and are being returned to their localities, gardaí said.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who has any information on the crash, or anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.

Vigils are to take place across three counties this evening for the five young people who lost their lives.
