Cold snap sets in for another week

Weather expected to gradually improve over coming week, but ice could become more of a problem than the snow. Check these links for travel updates.

THE COLD WEATHER IS WITH US for another week, according to Met Éireann, with ice becoming a more serious problem than the snow.

Today’s temperatures are expected to reach just 4 degrees, at the most.

AA Roadwatch says that road temperatures are well below zero this morning, and motorists should take extra care in case of black ice.

Gardaí are advising against any unnecessary journeys this morning and are warning drivers to avoid the N24 Carrick-on-Suit to Waterford Road at the Pilltown bypass.

Further travel advice for motorists can be found on the AA’s website throughout the day and the National Roads Authority is providing a detailed list of road conditions.

Bus Éireann says its services around the country are operating as per normal, but with some delays and diversions. Check its website for route information updates.

Irish Rail says it is operating a full service this morning, except the M3 Parkway to Clonsilla. There may be some delays to services due to the cold conditions and the Heuston to Galway service is delayed due to a mechanical fault earlier this morning. The Irish Rail Twitter account is providing regular updates on services.

Dublin Bus will be updating information on its site throughout the day as it monitors road conditions.

Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airports are open and fully operational this morning, but anyone due to travel by air this morning is advised to contact their airline in case of delays at other airports. Anyone travelling to Spain should contact their airline in case of difficulties surrounding the air traffic controllers’ strike in Spain.

In Dublin, the Luas Green Line is running between Stephen’s Green and Sandyford, with bus services running to the end of the line. The Red Line is operating between Tallaght and the Point, but the Connolly stop remains closed.
