smell of the summer

Watch: This beautiful drone video is probably the best you've ever seen about cutting silage

Serious tuneage as well.

AS ANYONE WHO’S been on the road over the weekend will tell you, it’s prime silage season out there.

Even if you love the smell of the freshly cut silage, you probably wouldn’t have thought that it also looks pretty beautiful being harvested.

Well it does. And you can thank Skyfly Photography for proving it.

The Carlow-based company has shot a lovely aerial video of Brennans Agri Contractors cutting silage in the summer sun.

The filming was done in Ballower in Co. Carlow and if it doesn’t make you feel summer-y nothing will.

It’s also accompanied by probably the best song of all time about cutting silage. The classic (from 2014) ‘Hit The Diff’ by Castleblayney singer Marty Mone.

The song, which contains lines like “Sucking diesel, cutting trucking, Spreading piping double clutching”, was surely the best/only choice for the video.

The song is usually played by Marty alongside his band, The Mad Ass Mules and, if you’re confused by some of the lyrics don’t worry, he’s put together a handy glossary with the help of The Farmers Journal.
