• A Waterford guesthouse owner has been awarded €70,000 by the High Court after being defamed by a comedian in an RTÉ radio sketch, which he says implied his establishment was a brothel.
• Eight out of 91 European banks have failed stress tests that project how they would fare in another recession, and 16 more barely passed, Europe’s banking regulator has announced. The three Irish banks that were assessed – Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland and Irish Life & Permanent- all passed.
• Taoiseach Enda Kenny has announced that there will be 10,000 new jobs created at the IFSC in Dublin over the next five years. He also announced the creation of 145 new jobs at a firm producing wind turbines in Athenry, Co Galway, over the next three years.
• The National Asset Management Agency (Nama) has decided not to acquire €1.4 billion in loans on the assets of the property developer Paddy McKillen – saying the loans were no longer “deemed material” in the way they had been in December 2009.
• In response to feedback from users, Google has announced that it will soon offer users on its new social networking site – Google Plus – the choice to keep their gender hidden from others.
