Trains resume between Pearse and Dún Laoghaire following damage to overhead lines

There is “reduced capacity” on a series of services as a result according to Irish Rail.

TRAIN SERVICES HAVE resumed this morning after yesterday’s massive fault put a stop to all south-side services.

Irish Rail has said on social media that it carried out repairs overnight after its overhead wire system sagged and got caught on a mechanical arm on its network, impacting its Connolly to Dun Laoghaire service

There is “reduced capacity” on a series of services as a result, affecting Malahide/Greystones (08.30), Drogheda/Dun Laoghaire (07.55) and Greystones/Howth (10.04).

Trains to and from Heuston are experiencing delays of up to 20 minutes due to signalling issues.

Other services that were impacted yesterday evening, such as routes to Rosslare and Rosslare Europort, have resumed.

Barry Kenny of Irish Rail said this morning the issue arose after some of the overhead wire system started “sagging”, which led to being pulled away by the mechanical arm at the top of the Dart that connects with the wires as a result.

“We will be obviously reviewing that with the recovered material right now, but the priority was to repair it as quickly and everything’s okay this morning,” Kenny told Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio One.
