Deep sea search locates flight data recorder from 2009 Air France crash
Three young Irish women were among the 228 people who perished in the crash.
FRENCH INVESTIGATORS said today that they have located a flight data recorder from the Air France flight which crashed off the coast of Brazil on 1 June 2009, killing all 228 passengers and crew on board.
The plane was travelling from Rio de Janeiro to Paris when it lost contact with air traffic controllers and disappeared.
Three Irish doctors who were returning from a holiday were on board the flight. The body of one of the three friends, 27-year-old Dr Jane Deasy of Rathgar, Dublin, was found during an early search operation, but the remains of the two other women have never been located.
The searches and investigation into the crash have been carried out by French and Brazilian authorities.
Some of a flight recorder from the plane was found last week, but it was missing the part which contained data on the flight. Investigators now hope that the data recorder found today will help determine what caused the crash.
