Skipping an expensive dessert won this family half a million quid

“I was buying the dinner last night and had €3 in change,” the husband said.

A YOUNG COUPLE from Drogheda has taken home €500,000 after buying a lottery ticket with the change they had left over from their shopping.

The winning ticket was bought by the couple in Dunnes Stores, Colpe Cross, Drogheda, Co. Louth.

Speaking about the win, the husband said, “I was buying the dinner last night and had €3 left in change.

It was enough for one line for the EuroMillions and EuroMillions Plus draws, so I bought a ticket.  I wouldn’t have bought one at all if it wasn’t for that!

The couple has said that they are going to need a bit of time to get used to their winnings and were not sure exactly how they were going to spend the money yet.

The half a million they won was the top prize in the EuroMillions Plus draw and is the third such win in the first week of July.  The other winners were a family syndicate from Birr in Co Offaly and a man from west Dublin.

In total there has been 16 winners of the EuroMillions Plus draw so far this year.
