Should a digital ID be required to access porn websites in Ireland?

Ireland’s Online Safety Code includes a requirement for restricting access to sexually explicit content.

DIGITAL AGE VERIFICATION may soon be required to access pornography websites in Ireland, The Irish Times has reported.

The Department of Communications confirmed that Ireland’s new digital wallet will be used to “support compliance” with the Online Safety Code – which includes a requirement to restrict access to sexually explicit websites for people under the age of 18.

Under laws introduced in the UK last year, pornography websites must carry out robust age-verification checks for users in the country.

Pornhub, one of the world’s largest pornography platforms, said last October that traffic from UK users had fallen by 77% since the checks were introduced that July.

With a similar measure now being considered in Ireland, we wanted to ask for your thoughts.

So, we’re asking: should a digital ID be required to access porn websites in Ireland?
