TODAY 22,500 PEOPLE will be taking part in the Dublin Marathon and roads around the city have been closed to make way for the route.

The course starts on Leeson Street and then runs north through the city centre, turns left along Arran Quay and then up through Smithfield and on to the Phoenix Park.

After the Park, the route turns back towards town at Castleknock, runs into Chapelizod and then on to South Circular Road via Sarsfield Road.

It then turns right at Dolphin’s Barn and runs along the Crumlin Road before turning into Kimmage.

From there the course takes runners through Bushy Park, down Orwell Road and into Milltown, before turning right into Clonskeagh, round UCD and back towards the finish line via Nutley Lane and then Merion Road.

The finish line is on Mount Street Upper.

The timings of the road closures are staggered, mostly starting at around 8am, but some of the city centre streets will have been closed from very early this morning.
