A MAN IN his 40s has died in hospital after suffering serious injuries while riding an e-scooter in Galway over the weekend.

He has been named locally as Saul Muniz, who is from Brazil.

On Friday night, 10 July, gardaí were alerted to a single-vehicle road traffic incident involving an e-scooter in Salthill.

The incident occurred at around 8.30pm on the R336 outside the former Spinnaker House Hotel.

Muniz was removed from the scene for treatment of serious injuries at University Hospital Galway.

The Garda Press Office said this afternoon that he has since died in hospital.

A fundraiser has been launched to repatriate Muniz’s body to his native Brazil. 

“The family’s wish is to bring him back to Brazil so he can be laid to rest surrounded by his loved ones,” said the fundraiser.

“Unfortunately, the costs of transporting him are very high.”

Those behind the fundraiser also thanked people for their “kindness, generosity, and prayers during this difficult time”.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by specialist garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who were travelling on the R336 near the former Spinnaker House Hotel past Blackrock between 8.15pm and 9.00pm on Friday 10 July and who may have camera footage – including dash-cam – are asked to make this footage available.
