Teenager stabbed and two robbed in early-morning Galway attacks

A man has been arrested in connection with the incidents.

A TEENAGER HAS been hospitalised after being stabbed in the early hours of the morning in Galway.

The 18-year-old was stabbed in the Wood Quay area of the city at around 2.30am this morning in what gardaí believe was a spate of crimes by the same man.

At around 2.15am, gardaí received a call from a 38-year-old man who said he had been threatened with a knife on the Headford Road.

Gardai then received a call that two men in their 20s had been robbed and threatened at knife point and that two mobile phones and a wallet were taken on the corner of Headford Road.

The suspect left in the direction of Wood Quay.

The teenager was stabbed not long after. He was taken to University College Hospital Galway where his condition is described as non life threatening.

Gardai received a description from a number of witnesses and a man fitting the description was arrested at 3am in Eyre Square and brought to Galway Garda station where he is being detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
