Man due in court over garda assault in Offaly

The garda required stitches after sustaining injuries to his ears.

A 40-YEAR-old man is due to appear in Athlone District Court this morning over charges relating to a drugs seizure and an assault on a garda in Offaly last month.

Gardaí said they are investigating an incident at a filling station on 24 August this year in which a garda was assaulted. A spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the garda in question received serious injuries to his ears and required six stitches.

It is understood that the alleged assault took place after the search of a car at the filling station and subsequent discovery of a quantity of drugs.

The 40-year-old will appear at Athlone District Court at 10.30.
